I’m not a fan of stereotypes, especially those that label women. One of the most disheartening stereotypes affecting women of color is that we see the negative in everything. In full transparency, I know a LOT of women (Asian, Caucasian, African American, Indian – you get my drift) who do this. It’s not a black thing… it’s a female thing. I’m sure there are events in their past that led to this type of thinking. However, please know that this type of stinking thinking will leave you with an unhappy life and stalled business.
It’s long been accepted that positive thinking can give you a better, happier life, but it can also help boost your business and actually make you more successful.
Successful femalepreneurs need a lot of qualities, but the one that is probably the most important is persistence. Successful businesses often have their failures, but they pick themselves up and keep on going. So what do you do if you’re not a naturally persistent person? You change your way of thinking!
If you look at a situation positively, you’re going to eventually see the possibilities rather than the failures. That becomes just the push to keep you going, keep you trying and eventually make you more successful.
Striving to have a positive attitude, just for the sake of having one, will generally make you a happier person, and happier people are more appealing to do business with. Sure, people can be annoyed when someone is ALWAYS sunshine and smiles, but they’d much rather deal with someone who is positive and happy than a grumpy person who doesn’t see the potential in things.
It is a great idea to start thinking more positively, but if you’re like me, it’s a lot harder to put into practice. Here are a few steps, some large, some small, that you can take to put a more positive spin on your business and your life. When I made these decisions non-negotiable in my life, things changed for the better.
– Surround yourself with positive people. You can’t choose everyone you have to talk to, but you can make sure the people you do choose aren’t dragging you down. If you find your husband or a good friend is constantly bringing in negativity, try talking to them and making it a challenge to both turn your thinking around.
– Use positive affirmations. These are positive statements about yourself and your business that you repeat several times at least once a day. Eventually, you will find that you start believing and trusting your affirmations more and more. If you some need help developing your affirmations, you can find my list of 50 Affirmations over in my private Facebook group, EPIC Femalepreneurs.
– Make a list of accomplishments. At the end of every day, make a list of what you got done that day, or simply what you’ve accomplished with your business overall. Make sure nothing is negative and purposely push the negative thoughts from your head. The next day you can read these accomplishments to help give you a positive boost to start your day. I create this daily by using my Living Your Best Life gratitude journal. You can purchase your digital copy >>> *PURCHASE*.
– Take care of yourself. If you feel good, you’re more likely to be positive about the world around you. You might find help from exercise and a healthier diet but can also get benefit from activities like meditation or yoga. They are great for clearing your mind of negative thoughts and giving you a fresh new perspective on life. I am a really big fan of meditation. I discovered it after participating in a free challenge with Oprah and Deepak.
#RealTalkMoment – learn to take baby steps. For some reason, we have this misconception that if we have big goals we need to have to achieve them with leaps. That is not true, believe me – it really isn’t. I’ve had more success with small steps then I ever could have if I jumped right on the path with no prep work. I challenge you to start today by taking small steps to make yourself more positive. I 99.8% sure that if you take daily action, you’ll probably get some big boosts in your business success.
Before I go, let me add that you can also use these tips to help make life better at home. I am sure being a femalepreneur is not the only hat you wear. If your business is struggling, you may be taking it out on your family & friends, and you may not even realize it. If you notice that your relationships are strained, use the tips above to help turn those situations around as well.
Until next time….
